Way of life
Dubai has been unmistakably formed by Arab and Islamic culture. A strong element in the success of Dubai is the wide-reaching liberal approach to non-Islamic beliefs, needs and ways of life. This flexibility has enabled a multicultural society to blossom in which less than 20% of the population are UAE nationals.
Although the official language is Arabic, English, Hindi and Urdu are widely spoken in private circles. There are also a number of other languages which reflect the rich diversity of this multicultural society. Without a doubt, Dubai is a cosmopolitan city and offers visitors a wealth of cultural events and leisure pursuits.
The rapid construction and architectural developments over the past few years are particularly impressive. The city has more than doubled in area and gained a number of architectural marvels. The Burj Al Arab and the various palm projects on the city's coastline are particularly well known.
